Daily Life At Pixie

Does my child have to be potty trained to attend Pixie?

No, your child does not need to be potty trained. We respect that all children have different timing with developmental steps and they will learn when they are ready. In the case that a child needs to be changed, only the professional teacher will be allowed to do so.

Can I bring my younger child on my co-op day?

If your child is under the age of 2, you will not be able to bring him/her to your co-op day. Many Pixie parents use the “kid swap” option where they help to watch each other’s children under 2-years-old while you serve on your co-op day.

What if my child’s sibling is 2? Can I bring him/her on my co-op day?

Pixie welcomes children to start at the age of 2 (spaces are limited). If you are not ready to have him/her start at Pixie, you can use the “sidecar option”.

Our “sidecar option” allows you to bring your two year old on your co-op day only, for an additional fee of $30 a month. This allows your little one to get used to the Pixie atmosphere and ready for upcoming enrollment.

Does the school provide food?

Parents are asked to pack a nutritional snack covering at least 3 of the food groups. We are a nut free school.

What is the discipline policy at Pixie?

Pixie Play School enforces a positive discipline environment. Our main focus on discipline (teaching/training) is preventative in nature, as we aim to build self-discipline in the child.

Our families at Pixie love the friendships created for students and parents alike in our collaborative, dynamic preschool community.

Co-Oping

What are my responsibilities when I co-op?

Each family at our school is required to volunteer in the classroom on a rotating basis. If this is not an option for your family, please see our Tuition page for more information.  Having our parents volunteer in the classroom allows us to enjoy a lower monthly tuition.

Typically, you will have a working day once a week, depending on enrollment. During your working days, you will be asked to assist the teacher with things like snack time, crafts, project set-up, clean-up, etc..

What is required on the “Housekeeping Co-op Shift”?

Once or twice per month, parents will participate in a housekeeping shift. During this shift, wipe down tables before and after snack, clean-up after snack time, vacuum, empty trash, sanitize etc..

For a complete list of the housekeeping duties please click here.

What happens if I cannot work my co-op day?

If you are unable to work on your assigned work date, it is your responsibility to arrange for a substitute. You must inform the teacher if you are unable to work. You can:

  • Call other parents in the membership to try to switch working days

  • Call a paid participant and pay them to work in your place

For more information, see Standing Rules, Fees and Fines listed in ByLaws.

What other commitments am I required to do in addition to my co-op hours?

Each family will join a yearly committee to help with assignments and general maintenance facilitated by a board member.

You will need to complete a minimum of three volunteer hours for our annual auction, fundraising events, and attend other planned fundraising events throughout the year.

Families will also participate in Saturday work parties two times throughout the year

During Pixie Field Trips, at least one parent of each child must attend. You may bring siblings as well, however, there may be an additional cost.

Lastly, we consider our small community a family. We hope our family is ready and willing to get the job done to go above and beyond a written description.

Taking part in your child’s early education is a truly rewarding experience that creates a successful pathway for you little one for years to come.

Health, Allergies & Immunizations

What are the immunization requirements?

A medical report and proof of immunization are required for each child.  A medical report, documentation of some immunizations, and a current TB test is also required for each adult who works in the classroom. Health forms must be completed and returned to the school before the child or adult may participate in the program.

What Is Pixie’s sick policy?

If your child is sick or contagious we ask that you keep the child home until good health returns. Cases of contagious disease in the home should be reported immediately to the school. The school shall then notify other members of the organization.

What is the schools policy on food allergies?

Our school is a nut free environment, and we also cater to many different food allergies. Prior to the beginning of every school year, classes are evaluated for food allergies. Snacks that are brought in to the school will be aligned with allergy needs.
